When you spend a day relaxing and fishing on Lake Taneycomo, do you ever stop and think about where all those brown and rainbow trout come from? They come from the lake, of course, but did you know that they were produced in a fish hatchery? Plus, did you know that that hatchery is an exciting place for families to visit? Who knew, right? If you’re visiting Branson with your family, be sure to check out this free, fun, and completely unique attraction. You’ll learn about Ozarkian wildlife, have a chance to feed the fish, and get a glimpse at the behind-the-scenes world of Missouri lake fishing.

You’re sure to learn a lot about Missouri lakes, trout, and how fish are raised within (and released from) a hatchery. The friendly employees and volunteers are always happy to answer any questions you might have. Plus, if you bring a few quarters along, you can even feed the fish!
The hatchery, a favorite of Trip Advisor travelers, is open year-round. During the summer, from Memorial Day through Labor Day, it’s open from 9am to 6pm, and tours are offered on weekdays at 10am, 11am, 1pm, and 2pm. From September through June, it’s open from 9am to 5pm, and guests are invited to try a self-guided tour. Note that the hatchery is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. Finally, when you’re finished at the hatchery, be sure to check out the nearby hiking trails. You’ll find three miles of easy-to-moderate trails that amble through forests, glades, and the lovely hills of the Ozarks.
