Have you been itching to get outside all winter long? Now that the ice has melted and the sun is shining, it’s time to grab a friend and explore the great outdoors! There are a variety of ways to enjoy the beauty of the Ozark hills—a showboat dinner cruise on Table Rock Lake, a zip-line flight through the trees, or a relaxing day golfing on the green—but if you love animals, you’ve got to try horseback riding in Branson MO. Whether you’re an equestrian enthusiast or a first-time rider, you’ll love this unique way of experiencing Branson’s natural beauty.
Horseback Riding in Branson MO
There are several local businesses that offer safe horseback rides to guests on well-trained horses. Here are a few of your options:
Bear Creek Trail Rides. Just seven miles north of Branson, Bear Creek Trail Rides offers relaxing one-hour and two-hour rides under shady trees, across two creeks, and through rolling hills. This is a family-owned and operated business that requests reservations for all riders, and as of March 19th, they’ve opened for business for the 2015 season!
Dogwood Canyon. The stables at Dogwood Canyon Park (about 30 minutes from Branson) offer one-hour and two-hour trail rides for adults and children who are eight years and older. They also offer a “cowboy experience” that involves cattle herding and a hearty meal, as well as a five to six-hour advanced ride for adults and children who are 12 years and older. Be sure to check their schedule online, as it varies by season, and call ahead for reservations.
Shepherd of the Hills Horseback Trail Ride. From Memorial Day through Labor Day, the horses used in the Shepherd of the Hills live entertainment show take visitors on 30-minute trail rides. You’ll ride through a historic homestead and along one of the trails that the Baldknobbers once rode. Rides are available on days that the Outdoor Drama is performed, and guests must be over the age of seven. If you don’t have much time, the trail ride’s central Branson location and short length could be perfect for you.

Before you add any of these trail rides to your itinerary, be sure to call ahead. Most horseback rides are only offered when the weather is accommodating, and there are age and weight restrictions. Additionally, you will need to check that there are enough horses for your entire group. A little research goes a long way!
We hope you have a wonderful ride. Giddy-up!
